Grand Junction, CO : The City of Grand Junction | Wikipedia
I left Buckeye, AZ about 8:30am. Arrived Grand Junction, CO 8:30pm. It was a long, hot day (12 hours and 618 miles), but it will (hopefully) mean I will be able to arrive at my buddy’s house in Evergreen, CO in the daylight.
Today was “the new normal”: hot. The max was about 104, but once again, the water vest really made it seem almost bearable. I wouldn’t want to do this trip without it. I thought today was going to be a bit cooler, since I was at a much higher elevation compared to Buckeye, but no such luck. Just as hot as in the valley.
I ran into one thunderstorm. I was in it for only about two miles, so I didn’t get too terribly wet, and dried off pretty quickly afterward. Then, near the end of the day, it looked as though I was going to hit another one, only this one was MUCH bigger, covering much more territory. But either the storm, or the highway (or both) changed directions and I was spared a real soaking.
The little bit of the weather report I saw after checking in to the hotel said tomorrow would be a repeat of today, for Grand Junction at least. So I should be okay in the morning, as I’m leaving Grand Junction, but no telling what will happen later in the day as I get closer to Evergreen.
There were a number of lightning strikes off in the distance, but I don’t think I got any of them on video.
