Rocky Mountain National Park (National Park Service)
Had a great breakfast of fresh fruit. After some coffee and conversation my buddy and I got on the bikes and went for a 250 mile, 6 hour ride. We passed through a number of small towns (some more touristy than others), as well as Estes Park, Boulder, Winter Park, and Golden. We had lunch (Mexican food) overlooking the lake at Estes Park. Very nice.
The highlight of the day was going through Rocky Mountain National Park ($20 entrance fee). We followed the road to the peak which topped out at 12,090 feet. We got off the bikes a couple of times, once to get a closer look at some large moose in a pasture (there were a couple of deer in another pasture, but we didn’t stop for them), and once near the peak to take some pictures and take in the grandeur of it all. I could really feel the lack of oxygen at that altitude. We also felt the cold and dampness in the air, though we managed to skirt the worst of the thunderstorms. I turned on my handlebar grip heaters for the first time in quite a while.
Not 100% sure where I will be going next. West more than likely. But could be East to see the Black Hills. It all depends on what happens over the next couple of days. I’m working with my buddy here in Evergreen to see if I can get hired on at Aircell. If they want me, I may have to zip home to get ready to come back for interviews. If not, then I will take my time coming back, and when I do get back, concentrate on teaching positions in Flagstaff (Coconino Community College) and Prescott (Yavapai College and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University).
